Hitachi
Sustainability
How can we make complex information available to all?
Due to its scale Hitachi has a sprawling web footprint with multiple business and country sites. Whilst sustainability is at the heart of what they do, they lacked a central website on the topic.
To address this we were briefed to create a best-in-class website to make their sustainability message explicit, concrete and relevant. It needed to meet the needs of diverse audiences – from ESG specialists to clients – and be ready in time for COP28.
Working with our Better Impact and Energy & Industrial teams we made content accessible and organised for these audiences. We worked meticulously on redefining an already existing site structure as part of our planning process, ensuring that content flow and user journeys were both informative and engaging throughout, ultimately maximising dwell times and encouraging discovery beyond the home page.
That level of consideration then informed any design or UX decisions that were made. We created modules that could easily adapt from desktop to mobile views, utilised imagery that evolved Hitachi’s own sustainability story, and worked closely with the Hitachi digital team in Tokyo, ensuring that all on-brand elements from colour to type sizing passed at a AA accessibility rating.
Prior to go-live we conducted rigorous browser testing, and ensured that all on page HTML transitions and animations were fully optimised with site speed in mind.
